Giving the neighbors a real Halloween

Halloween is not just sweet around here, it is fun!  Not only is it Dan's birthday but it's the one day where we get to dress up.  This year the kids got really into Super Mario. We gave Vietnam a close to true Halloween experience with games, food, and TRICK OR TREATING!!! Many came to the party with no idea what trick or treating was. Thanks so much to my amazing team of preschool teachers, friends, and husband for helping make that party an unforgettable experience.

We were the Koopas.  I had the body of the Koopas made by my team of tailors and then with a needle and some thread I made their shells.  I'm princess Peach and Dan's Luigi.  Darion was the cutest little Mario.

I spent hours making those shells...so glad that's over!

This was where I had the designs and the teachers at the preschool I taught at helped carried them out.  Could not have done it without them.
The kids did their own decor as well leading up to Halloween.  They made spiders and bats.
My friend Chi Ha came and helped me glue them on to some sheets and we carried them out to the park because our villa was not big enough to hold 50 people.
So yes we had roughly 50-60 people showed up to the Halloween party I put on.  Most of them were parents of the kids from the English class at the preschool but a good handful were from the neighborhood and the expats in the area that we know.

We had a doughnut eating contest.  That was fun!
I had a lot more games planned than I had time or energy to make sure they happen.  I have done parties where I tried doing everything by myself and burn myself out.  I've learned to delegate duties out to get things done.  This one was a bit bigger than I had planned.  I'm glad to check that off the list as well.
One of the duties I had listed was getting the neighbors involved.  My friend who had lived in the neighborhood for 5 years and knew lots of the expats helped me arranged for them to be ready to give out candies when the kids come.   We had about 10 houses that were so excited to bring Halloween night to life like it is in the States! We had some parents volunteered to bring candies to contribute and I made sure to buy some real American chocolate candies as well since my kids complained about how lame the candies from last Halloween were because I gave my great aunt some money and asked her to go get some and she came back with some hard candies and rice crackers.
My great aunt got in the spirit of Halloween for a bit, too.
We filled up the streets.  It was such a fun crowd.

So I spent years making cake but after I left America for living abroad, I didn't want to make any more cake.  I've checked that off the list. I've proofed to myself that I could make a cake, a 3 tiered cake, a theme cake, a crumbled cake, and a yummy cake.  No need slaving away for hours anymore when you could get one like this for $8.  This cake was very pretty, but if I were to buy a cake for Dan, this would not be my choice but it was cute to see my aunt pulled the cake out of the box.  We had a good laugh.
At the end of the night I took off the wig...Dan came down and surprised us.  The kids all said he looks like his mom except Nama looks prettier.
We had a really good laugh. Happy belated birthday to this Halloween baby. I'm so happy he's mine. He brings so much happiness into our lives and I'm glad he was born.
