February - Now the Resolutions really begin

My goal is when the kids are all in school that I can go and make some big bucks.  The question is what am I doing right now that would help me in that career goal.  I love crafting, singing, and playing the guitar.  Do those things help me with my career goal?  Unfortunately no.  I sometimes think I have too many hobbies and I'm not filling my brain up with enough academic intelligence.  I stopped going to Glee so I could attend more meetings with World Financial Group.  Every time I go I find myself expanding in my understanding and knowledge of the financial world.  I feel somewhat worthy to be a Nguyen since everyone is making big dough, the kind that buys you all the vacations and even the kind you eat.

We set out to make our New Year resolutions.  We made them of course at the beginning of the year, but we made it official by writing them down.  Reena wants to improve on her violin, ice skating, and her multiplications.  Debrie wants to be better at piano, violin, ice skating, and having less tantrums.  Ronin (added by mommy) less falls and better at potty training.  So far he is successful at number 2!  Dan and I: more time at the gym and better form on those squat racks.  Muscle is the new sexy, not skinny.  More times at the temple and more patient with our children.  For Dan's personal goal:  Finish his Drone and make it fly.  My personal goal:  Become a certified financial adviser.  How I would love to be able to add that to my resume.  It is slow just like it was with Real Estate.  But I can assure you that my education section in my resume now has Real Estate and Financial Advising on top of Counseling psychology and that will help in these years while I'm a homemaker.

I got booked for another birthday party.  This lady noticed me at her friend's son's party and booked me for her daughter's party.

One of the highlights for us in February was cheering on the Hawks on their way to the Superbowl.  It gave us a reason to have a party with our friends.  While I entertained some rich kids at a huge party of over 100 people, Dan and the girls went to the Root beer store in Redmond (owned by a Mormon) where they got to choose 20+ flavors among the hundreds of flavors for our game day. After the party, we met up and celebrated the Seahawks pre game day at the Pancakes house with some friends and brought home our root beer, waiting patiently 'til the next day...
We had so much fun tasting each of the flavors and everyone had a blast.  If it wasn't for the last part of the game where the Hawks gave their ball away, boy I would say that was an absolutely fun fun day.

I started going back to the Zumba at church since my new visiting teaching companion goes there regularly.  Our gym 24hr Fitness has Zumba classes that I regularly go to but it is fun to have different music at two places.  Debrie seems happy to be there this time as her friend Sadie is now there and Ronin loves playing with the kids at Zumba.

So the story of the hair cut...
Was inspired by this picture.  One night I looked at old pictures, this one specifically from last year when my sister and I went clamming and found this area with huge oysters.  I saw my hair and thought, wow I could pull a short hair cut.  I've had short hair cuts before but they have been rather dull.  I want to keep up with the compliment Dan's mother gave me this last time I visited.  Basically she said I look so much more stylish and prettier than in college.  I told her that I have more time now where as in college my eyes were on the books and nothing else.  Ok, maybe on her son as well but the books took over.  Well, recently I find myself pulling my hair back a lot and not having much time to take care of my hair and it's starting to look a bit dull.  I needed something to spice it up a bit and something a little low maintenance.  So one night after putting Ronin down I took a pair of scissors to my hair and surprised Dan.

I started off across the chest, then got a bit higher.  I clipped and fixed and voila!  I love it.  Got a tons of compliments on facebook, including one saying I look like pre high school.  I love it, too especially because now I have more time for my active little guy
Speaking of the little guy, he has grown so much since Christmas.  He added some more weight, is willing to take a bottle (yippy!!)  I'm still nursing him but it is nice that he will take a bottle now.  Because he weighs more he can now sit in a front facing carseat on occasions when he isn't sleepy.  He loves seeing more things and communicates so much more to us now that he can see things.  Each day he adds another word.  Around his birthday he could say about 5 words, now he can say about 15.  Just in time to impress Ba Ngoai.
And WAHHH?  He's potty training???  Yep!  And succeeded, too!!  BM in the toilet baby.  He is a fast learner.  Whatever you show him, twice and he'll get it.  Once for some things.  So proud of my little guy.  I'll spare you the image of the stuff inside the toilet, mainly because of what is coming up.

 Valentine's day
Dan decided that for Valentine's day, he would make me a flower/veggie raised garden.  I love gardening so of course I welcomed that whole hardheartedly.  But Valentine's day is also a Friendship day so we invited our best friends over for a sleepover at our house.  They came, we had fun games and treats and played all night.  The next morning we had a fun time playing our guitars in my Saturday music class and then we hired a babysitter and went and worked out at the gym.  All four of us

We rested a little and then went hiking to a mountain near our house called Poo Poo point.  I kid you not that is the name!  This mountain is famous for para gliders.  We see them jump off of this mountain quite often

The biggest treat for me in February was to have my mom come for Mid Winter Break.  She said she was available and ready to get away from the cold so I booked a flight for her to come the next day.  She was so happy and surprised that we found a decent ticket.  She left -8 degrees and snowy weather Philadelphia for a nice toasty 70 degrees Seattle.  She was in heaven.  Seattle gave her a really nice 2 weeks of high 60's.  It was great.  She brought me a tons of authentic Vietnamese New Year goodies.  What a treat!!

I had so much fun playing tennis with my mom.  She is awesome!  And pretty good at tennis, too.

I took her to Pike Place Market.  She spoiled the kids with yummy treats and she loved it
We went on a boat ride

 Got some seafood
Perhaps the biggest treat was having her chase Ronin around and I could sit and watch a show.  It was lovely.  She loves Ronin and he returned her with many kisses.  That boy is such a woman's man

We celebrated the New Year at Seattle Center.  The kids joined in on the activities and each got a red envelope of $100 each from Ba Ngoai.  They embraced the culture a bit more now and brag to their friends that the Vietnamese give out a lot of money for New Year

There was music and dancing and spelling Bee even.  So Asian!

My girls in their traditional Vietnamese tunic (Ao dai)

The other nice part about having my mom here was having more date nights with Dan.  And what did we do for most of the nights?  Gym work out and we also went to the Temple.  Rock solid relationship building right there
And my mom and I got to spend some time together at the gym also.  I didn't want her to leave and go back to frozen Philly.  She didn't want to either but after 2 and a half weeks she had to return to work.  I didn't want her to leave clearly because when I took her to the airport, I had Dan check the flight status for me and he said I was early, a whole month early.  I made a mistake when I booked her return flight and completely missed the month.  Oh we had a good laugh!
What else happened in February?  I'm not sure.  I mostly tried to fulfill my roles as a wife, mothers, and fulfilled my duties as a teacher (check out my friend on her Chinese instrument.  She is playing for my preschool here).  My church duties are: Nursery music person/ Activity Days for Girls Leader (Which I absolutely enjoy.  More to come on this in March).
