June Bug - The Travel Junkies Diary

Tourist Info
We have loved having an amusement park in town and enjoy seeing the different decorations.  If you come into town Sunworld Amusement Park is a must.  It's a $10 entrance fee but you get many roller coasters, tons of little kids rides and 2 huge playrooms. If you are local definitely get the $25 for a 6 months pass. Sunworld also has Bana Hills resorts and other amusement parks throughout Vietnam under their name as well.

Our family Journal Portion
We started the month off with my cousin's graduation.  This is a cousin that we gave a room to and has been living with us.  We hardly see her because she works all day and sometimes go hang out with friends but we get to see her more than if she doesn't live with us.  It was fun to celebrate her day.

The kids are getting to know more people. The girls are starting to get friends they go out with or have come over and Ronin is going to preschool.

I get to teach these adorable kids in Da Nang.  Can you pick out little Roro?
Brie was Gretel for her drama school play
We enjoy the vibrant colors of Da Nang at night.   Seeing people outside of their home having a good time is what makes Viet Nam so fun for us.  It's so different than even the busiest city in America.

There has been an ongoing fireworks competition between various countries here. On the last day of the month we went to see the US face Italy in the championship round. Each launched fireworks to a few songs from their home turf. I shed a tear in front of the waving stars and stripes while a bald eagle landed on my shoulder as America gave a grand finale that is best summed up in the immortal words of Tim Taylor: “More power!” Oh sure, Italy’s performance was refined and graceful and expertly done. All I’m saying is that had the bombs been bursting in the air like that forty something years ago, I wouldn’t be needing a visa to visit this place. Murica! Alas, it’s not the first time America has lost to a long thin country despite overwhelming force. Oh well, one out of three will still get you in the running for Cooperstown.

We had a pretty awesome view, apparently the best seat in town because Sungroup was the organizer for the event and we were sitting on the grass of their main office which happened to be right across from where the fireworks were fired off.  Tickets were $25 per person for the cheapest seat.  Several were $50.  What an experience!

This Han river is also where we like to go out at night to take photographs of city lights and let our kids play

Da Nang does a great job at having many kids indoor playgrounds...however it's terrible if you're a home schooler that gets your work done early because many places don't open until 3:00 PM
It was time to cut Ronin's hair.  It was getting very long...
But how could I?  Look at his precious curls!!!

We ride the motorbikes local style.  Pile them up!!
We bought another lightsaber because what were we thinking only bring one lightsaber from the States?!!  We should have brought one because we paid $25 for one but I think we got the other light saber in the States for $10.
We have loved having our friends the Halls and their two kids living in Da Nang the last 6 months.  We loved beach trips, countryside trips, and having church with them was much more fun than just us.  We shed some tears when they left and went back to the States.

After the Halls left we had a visitor from Saigon, a clerk from our phone in branch.  Meet Son, a return missionary.  One of our few Vietnamese missionaries.

We try to entertain our guests with pies and sweet treats like banana breads and fresh baked bread.  It was definitely a sadder months because our friends left but lucky for us we had so much to remember with them.  We made a trip to Thailand also in June so stay tuned for more on Thailand on the next post!
