April Adventure Part II

We came back from our Mid Winter break to Legoland in February and that was when we started planning our Spring break (we take it one vacation at a time:).  We called up Grandma and Grandpa Evans and asked if we could spend our Spring Break with them.  They were excited to have us and we very much couldn't wait to see them.  Grandpa Evans is the only grandpa I've ever known so he and grandma Evans are pretty special people to me.  I love being with cheerful happy people like them.  They were most welcoming to me when I came into the family and I could not say enough about how much we love them.
Our first day was rough.  Grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer, something we found out when Dan was in Vegas meeting up with all of his siblings, in March.  It made this trip even more needed.  We wanted to be there to give grandpa a big hug and help around the house as much as we could.  Knowing we have little ones that could make a lot of noise, we tried our best to help.  We shopped, made food, cleaned up and most important, tried to cheer grandpa up.  He and grandma snuggled with the children and asked to hold them many times.  Grandpa had just barely undergone radiation and chemo.  It was very sad to see him try to catch a breath and ate.  I made soups, gave him massages, clipped his nails, and just chatted for hours with them.  There was no better vacation in my mind this whole year.  I cannot say enough about this special time we had with Dan's grandparents.  I'm not sure you could find sweeter people on this earth!  I want to be like them when I grow up

We got a fun visit from Dan's cousins Jessica and her gang.  She grabbed Darion and snuggled with him right away
So her little cutie came over and snuggled with me.  He came over on his own, which made it so cute.  What a sweet little guy

Ronin loved the little airplanes from their emergency airport
 And the geyser of course

Jake and Morgan joined us for dinner almost every night.   Morgan loves little big Darion

And trains and train park.  Who knew Soda Springs could be so fun!
We saw many trains passing by.  Ronin loved it

And what a wonderful surprise!  We woke up to snow.  We left Seattle at it's hottest of 86 degrees.  We were not prepared.  We borrowed grandma's jackets, hats, gloves.  She was prepared.

I made grandpa a snowman to look at.  He was too tired to go out to the snow and play with us.  I made the snowman right out of this window view.  Boy did he love that snowman.  He loved it so much he willingly got out and stood by the snowman for a picture.

I made some schnitzel because  it reminded me of how cold we were when we were in Germany and it was snowing.  Coffee cakes and whipped cream for dessert!

When the sun came out and the snow melted the next day, we thought we had some time to take the kids to the Hooper's Soda Spring.  We left and about half an hour got a call saying "Granpa isn't well".  He had to be rushed to the town's hospital.

While he was there we took turns visiting him.  He was still asking about the snowman so I took pictures for the updates.

We were going to leave after the kids go to the park and get some stretching that day but we didn't have the heart to.  We bought him flowers (which he claimed to have never had flowers given to him before at a hospital so that made my day) and ice cream.  He was dehydrated from not being able to eat.  The IV fluids brought life back into him.
Since we extended our vacation we decided to visit Scott and his ranch.  Reena really wanted to ride his horse.

The snowman melted so much I decided to fix him up as an elephant to cheer grandpa up.  You could tell he was getting pretty sad we were leaving.  But we had to get back so I could teach.  We left on Sunday morning after a week long with them.  We said our goodbyes and prayed that we will get to see them again soon at the Stevens reunion.  We went to a church nearby and took off.

We got a little pass Boise and had a flat tire.  Such a bummer!  It was Sunday so no tire place was opened.  So, to wipe away our sadness we checked into the nicest hotel around to play until the next day.

Free cookies?  Not bad of a hotel
